The Protein Sovereignty Index is published by Full Circle Biotech. Protein sovereignty is our mission: we build sustainable protein production, and this index measures the problem we exist to solve. It assesses every population's ability to sustain affordable access to enough protein to meet its nutritional needs, even through disruption to production, trade and critical inputs.
The index covers the entire world through 40 assessments: 24 individual countries, 2 blocs assessed as single units (the European Union and the Gulf Cooperation Council), and 14 regions covering all remaining states. Every sovereign state is named and characterised within its assessment.
Scores follow a published, versioned methodology: a quantitative core built on FAO, UN Comtrade, USDA, World Bank and peer-reviewed data, with bounded and fully logged qualitative adjustments. Read the methodology.
The index was first published in August 2026. We plan to update it on a yearly basis.
